In this Q&A, we catch up with Patrick Koenig, who recently set a new world record for playing the most 18-hole golf courses in a single year. He shares his thoughts on the 18th green at Omni Interlocken right after sinking the final putt for the world record, all while expressing his gratitude to everyone who made this achievement possible. Join us for this short interview about his exhilarating journey on and future plans for The RGV Tour 2.0.
PATRICK KOENIG, HOW DO YOU FEEL?
I feel like a million bucks. It was an experience like none other! The water balloons got me going. It was a fun finish; we just had fun. That's what this whole tour is about. It's atypical.
IT’S BEEN A LONG TOUR. DID YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS ALONG THE WAY?
I was so determined that I don’t think I really did. When you have just resolved, like, we’re doing this, nothing can stop us. It has to get done. I think most people have that ability within them. And then, for me, it’s something I’m extremely passionate about. I really wanted it, and everything was working in my favor. There was just no way that this wasn’t going to happen.
So now that it’s happened, it’s kinda cool. Obviously, some very bad things could have happened along the way, and it could have not. And here we are, standing on the green, and I’m a new world record holder. I am the world record holder for most 18-hole golf courses played in a single year as of moments ago. I think the ball is still in the hole.
BUT THE RGV TOUR 2.0 IS NOT STOPPING HERE, RIGHT?
No.
TELL US, WHAT’S NEXT?
Oh, you know, golf tomorrow! Yeah, we’re going to set another world record. I hope they won’t hit me with water balloons again, although it was pretty good.
But we’ll go to Utah. We’re going to Vegas, California, Arizona... We’ve got two months left to increase our lead! And I say our lead because it’s everybody. Everyone who was part of the tour that made it our record. Not just mine. I mean, I was there for every round, but it’s the people. They know. You know who you are; you played with me! And honestly, I got so many text messages from people that played and thought it was the coolest thing and donated to the First Tee. It’s an awesome feeling!
AND HOW WILL YOU CELEBRATE?
Probably with cake! I'll celebrate with my Breakfast Balls 450 QZ. It's going to be the official QZ of the next two months. Good luck getting it off of me. But probably some cake and dinner later on.
ANY WORDS FOR THE GOLF GAMEBOOK TEAM?
Oh, I mean, you guys are the best! You made it happen! Everyday, living in that app, we were kind of connected in that regardless (the distance). This is for you guys. You watched from afar and helped out and made it extra special. I appreciate all your efforts. I can't wait to see you guys and celebrate with you. This was cool!
